For an international student(income is lower than ¥330,000-.)

I will tell you  how to reduce national health insurance(NHI) fee.

In the case, for an international student(income is lower than ¥330,000-.)

When you come to Japan first time, please nortificate to your municipality that you don't have income or your income is lower than 330,000- in Japan of preceding year. NHI fee is calculated by preceding year's income, so if you notificate about that, you can get 70% off reduction.

If you can get 70% off reduction,,,

Before you notificate your income infomation

Total NHI fee = per capita fee(¥51,000- ) + income based fee (depend on income )

                      = ¥51,000-

After you notificate your income information

Total NHI fee =per capita fee(70% off ) + income based (It's ¥0- if your income is ¥0-.)

                       =¥15,000-

This is the lowest cost in tha case of 23 wards of Tokyo for 1 years(for a 1 month NHI fee is ¥15,300/12months=¥1,275-).

NHI fee (from April to next year's March) is calculated on every year's June. And this calculation uses your precending year's income. So if you don't notificate your income information, you can't get reduction. So please don't forget to notificate to municipality where you live on Jan 1st of every year (but if come to Japan first time after Jan 1st, please notificate to first municipality you live in Japan.)  about your income information .
